How to Apply for Google Play Production Access

Last updated: 5 November 2026

Quick answer

After at least 12 testers have been opted in to your closed test for 14 continuous days, open your Play Console Dashboard and click Apply for production. You answer questions about your testing, your app and its readiness. Google usually replies within 7 days.

Before you apply: checklist

  • Your closed test has had at least 12 opted-in testers for 14 days in a row, and the Play Console dashboard shows this as complete. If you are not there yet, read the 12 testers / 14-day rule guide.
  • You have fixed the crashes and major bugs testers reported.
  • You have notes on the feedback you received and what you changed.
  • Your store listing, privacy policy, data safety form and content rating are complete.

Where to apply

  1. Open Google Play Console and select your app.
  2. Go to the Dashboard. In the "Apply for production access" section, click Apply for production.
  3. Answer the questions (see below) and submit.

What Google asks, and how to answer well

The questions fall into three groups. Short, vague answers are one of the most common reasons applications are turned down, so be specific.

1. About your closed test

  • How did you recruit testers? Say honestly where they came from, for example friends and colleagues, a community, or a testing service.
  • How easy was it to recruit testers? Explain briefly.
  • How engaged were testers? Describe what they did: which features they used, how often, and on which devices.
  • What feedback did you receive, and how did you collect it? Give concrete examples, such as "testers reported the login screen froze on Android 12; we fixed it in version 1.0.3".

2. About your app

  • Who the app is for and what it does.
  • What makes it useful, and how many installs you expect in the first year.

3. Production readiness

  • What changes you made based on testing.
  • How you decided the app was ready for production.

Why production access gets rejected

  • Low tester engagement: testers opted in but barely used the app.
  • No evidence of feedback: answers that say "no issues found" with no detail.
  • No changes made: the same build ran for all 14 days with no updates.
  • App quality or policy problems: crashes, broken features, or an incomplete store listing.

If you are rejected, read Google's reason carefully, keep testing, ship a few improvements, and apply again with more detailed answers.

How Closed Test Hub helps with your application

With Closed Test Hub, testers use your app on real Android phones every day and report bugs and feedback. At the end you get a feedback report you can draw on when answering Google's questions, and your dashboard shows day-by-day tester activity. Professional plans add crash logs and a device audit. We cannot guarantee approval, because only Google decides, but we help you apply with a well-tested app and real examples.

After approval

Approval unlocks the Production track. Create a production release (you can promote your tested closed-track build) and it goes through the normal app review before it appears on Google Play.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Google take to review a production access application?

Google says it usually takes up to 7 days, though it can be faster or occasionally longer. You will get an email and a Play Console notification with the result.

What happens if my production access application is rejected?

Google tells you why, usually that the app needs more testing or more engagement from testers. You may need to keep testing for longer, fix the issues raised, and then apply again.

Does completing the 14-day closed test guarantee production access?

No. Completing the test only makes you eligible to apply. Google decides based on your answers and how the testing went, so detailed, honest answers about feedback and fixes matter.

Do I need to keep my closed test running while I apply?

It is a good idea to keep your testers opted in until production access is approved, in case Google asks you to continue testing.

After production access is approved, is my app live?

Not automatically. Approval unlocks the Production track. You still need to create a production release and send it for the normal app review before it appears on Google Play.

Need 12+ testers for your closed test?

Closed Test Hub gives you real testers on physical Android phones, a tester-by-day dashboard for all 14 days, and a feedback report you can use in your production application. Plans start at ₹699.
